The 11th Anniversary of Paying Obeisance Ceremony to elderly musicians was held on 22 December at Sky Star Hotel in Tamway Township, Yangon Region, keeping in line with the rules and regulations of COVID-19.
The ceremony was hosted by the Myanmar Music Association (Central), and officials from the Ministry of Information and departments from Yangon Region attended the ceremony.
“We, the Ministry of Information, are always in touch with the art world, so it is a must-attend event. All the musicians and artistes have been revered and cherished since we were young.
“Artistes have a good tradition throughout their life, carrying the interests of the country and the people. Their efforts are appreciated.
“Thanks to the organizers of this annual event in accordance with COVID-19 rules, and it is not a big event, but it is a celebration of our annual tradition,” said Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint.
He also wished the veteran musicians have a long and healthy life in the years to come, and wished the musicians to be healthy and prosperous.
“We, the executive and all members of the Ministry of Information, must adhere to the Ministry of Information’s guideline to make the weary hearts of the people happy, and we must serve the weary people. We will work with music to make people smile,” the deputy minister added.
“At today’s event, we were unable to invite all the senior musicians, but only 15 were invited.
“We will pay respect to senior musicians from different states and regions,” said U Lwin Myint, Chairman of the Myanmar Music Association (Central).
K10 million from the State Administration Council, K5 million from the Ministry of Information, K500,000 from Forever Group and another K500,000 from 77 Cake were donated to the Myanmar Music Association (Central).
Certificates of honour to the donors were given by the music association (central).
A total of 147 senior musicians were honoured at the ceremony.
Each of the 79 veteran musicians aged over 80 will receive K200,000 and 68 veteran musicians aged over 75 will be paid K150,000 each, according to the ceremony. — Aik Thone/GNLM
