The 15th Dr. Tin Shwe Literary Award ceremony to honour writers and promote literacy was held in the Novotel Hotel, Kamayut Township, Yangon yesterday.
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint said there were increases in literature-related events and programmes this year. Dr. Pe Myint, himself an author, is striving to develop and advance the literary circle. Those in the literary circle have been able to fully utilise creative freedom and expand their literary work, the minister said. The Ministry of Information holds talks and hosts book selling events and children literature events.
Those from the literary circle thanked the donors of the award, Sayagyis and Sayamagyis who selected the award winners and expressed hope that donors could provide more donations for the award while more outstanding literature is produced.
U Kyaw Win (Manoktha Kyaw Win), a Dr. Tin Shwe Literary Award selection committee member and Myanmar Writers Association Chairman explained the history of the award while selection committee member Saya Maung Khin Min (Danuphyu) explained the process of selection of the award winners.
Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint then awarded the Life Long Literary Award to Sayagyi U Win Maung (Min Yu Wei), the literary award to Ma Khin Nu (Dathana), who wrote “Bagan Pagoda, Bagan Speech, Bagan People”, the translation book award to U Win Nyein who translated “The King In Exile”, the book award to Dr. Khin San Maw who wrote “Home Grown Love”, and the translation book award to Sun Thit Aung (KMA), who translated “A Study of the Leadership Skills of Ancient Myanmar Monarchs.”
On behalf of the award donors, Dr. Tin Shwe’s daughter Daw Tin Tin Aye, Managing Director of KMD Group of Companies presented a gift of honor to the Award Selection Committee, which was accepted by the committee member Saya U Kyi Min. Son U Thet Lwin then donated Kyat 5 lakhs to honour aged writers, which was accepted by the Myanmar Writers Association Joint Secretary Myat Wei Toe (University of Education).

Afterward the Union Minister, award winners and the donor family posed for commemorative photos. The Dr. Tin Shwe Literary Award has been given since 2001.
