16 acres of avocado cultivation completed in Naga area this year

As avocado is perennial, the department is making efforts to grow high-quality avocado seeds in the Naga zone.

About 16 acres of avocado cultivation has been completed in Naga self-administered zone, Sagaing region and more avocado plantations are underway to cultivate continuously, said U Aung Kyi Win, deputy head of Sagaing Region Agriculture Department.
This year, the avocado cultivation in Naga self-administered zone started in May 2021. So far, 13 acres of avocado has been cultivated in Leshi township and three acres in Nanyun township, according to statistics from the department.
“About16 acres of avocado has been cultivated in two townships of Naga self-administered zone in Sagaing region. We are also making arrangements to grow more acres of plantation in other townships. For the development of the Naga zone, avocado saplings have been distributed to grown in their areas. Now, the farmers started cultivating the plants,” said U Aung Kyi Win.
Sagaing Region Agriculture Department is cooperating with the township agriculture head and local farmers to cultivate the avocados continually in Naga self-administered zone.
As avocado is perennial, the department is making efforts to grow highly-quality avocado seeds in the Naga zone.
Avocado fruit has high oil content and a very nutty, rich taste. Its flesh is smooth textured and it has a thick skin casing. The fruit ripens between September and February. The tropical climate and rich soil in Myanmar make it a perfect place for avocado cultivation.
