Officials seized 16 boats laden with teak logs at the Kukkopin jetty in Singu Township, Mandalay Region, early on Sunday morning.
Around 1 a.m. on 16 December, a combined team comprising officials from the police, forest, and the township administrative office, found 16 boats at the jetty during a regular operation along the Ayeyawady River. The owners of the boats could not be located.
The team seized the boats and confiscated the timber, and moved them to the township’s Forest Department, which has been working to combat illegal logging and smuggling in the region. Forest officials are continuing their investigations in the case to find those who were trying to illegally transport the teak, which is a prohibited forest product.
