200-year-old Kanyin (Dipterocarpus alatus) discovered in Pantanaw Tsp

A 200-year-old Kanyin —wood-oil tree — was found in the Sasana Rakkhita Monastery compound in Kyaungtawkalay Village of Tawkyang Village-track in Pantanaw Township of Maubin District in Ayeyawady Region.
The 200-year-old tree is 17 feet in girth and about 150 feet in height and is strangely grown in Ayeyawady Region. The Presiding Sayadaw of Sasana Rakkhita Monastery, villagers and officials of the Forest Department conserve it so far.
Various species of Garjan oil tree are Dipterocarpus costatus, Dipterocarpus alatus, Dipterocarpus kerrii King, Dipterocarpus obtusifolius, Dipterocarpus dyeri and Dipterocarpus turbinatus. The Dipterocarpus costatus mostly grows in upper Myanmar and the Dipterocarpus alatus in lower Myanmar, according to the Forest Department. – Pyae Phyo Kyaw (IPRD)/GNLM
