2024 Inter-Ministerial Universities’ Football Tournament kicks off

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Inter-Ministerial Universities’ Football Tournament took place at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
It was attended by State Administration Council members Daw Dwe Bu, Porel Aung Thein, Mahn Nyein Maung, Dr Hmuh Thang, Dr Ba Shwe, and U Yan Kyaw, Union ministers, deputy ministers, departmental officials, and relevant officials.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Education Dr Nyunt Pe, who is also chairman of the football tournament organizing committee, said the universities’ sports sector is being promoted in accord with the objectives of the State Administration Council and guidance of the State Head. The tournament is also held with the aim of “From University Selection to National Selection”, and the outstanding university players will be selected for ASEAN university games and international competitions.
He then highlighted the critical role of youths in State development and for the future nation and inaugurated the 2024 Inter-Ministerial Universities’ Football Tournament.
After the ceremonial procedures, the SAC members, Union Minister Dr Nyunt Pe and officials cordially met with the players.
They then enjoyed the match between the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development Team and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Team. The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development Team beat the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Team 7-1 in the match.
The objectives of the 2024 Inter-Ministerial Universities’ Football Tournament are to promote the football standard of universities, to be fully supportive of fit and education standards, to ensure friendship, endeavour, patience, strength, unity, and team spirit based on sports spirit, to follow the rules and regulations, to be qualified students who are gentle and good citizens and to turn out outstanding athletes.
The tournament will be from 31 August to 9 September, and it will be held with seven teams from relevant ministries’ universities.
The outstanding athletes will be selected for the 22nd ASEAN University Games to be held in Malaysia in 2026. — MNA/KTZH
