2024 MOFCOM Scholarship Awarding Ceremony held

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw attended the 2024 MOFCOM (Chinese Ministry of Commerce) scholarship awarding ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia first briefed the intention of MOFCOM scholarships to Myanmar.
The Union minister then said that human resources development plays a significant role in national development, and the Chinese government offers the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC), Youth Excellent Scholarship (YES), and MOFCOM scholarships yearly. Among them, it includes various subjects such as education, management, people’s policy, international relation, business, statistics and law which support the capacity building of government employees. During the scholarship tour, they can study the progress, language and culture of China and should try to strengthen further cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries. The staff officers and staff who receive the scholarship try hard and should apply their knowledge properly in their workplace and make efforts to be qualified human resources for the country.
The Union minister, the Chinese ambassador and the economic and commercial counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar presented the admission letters to the scholarship winners.
The MOFCOM launched short-term discussions and offered master’s degree programmes and doctoral programmes to develop human resources in Myanmar. It provided 14 PhD degrees and 51 Master’s degrees in 2023 and seven PhD degrees and 65 Master’s degrees in 2024.
After the ceremony, the Union minister met the Chinese ambassador and discussed the enhancement of bilateral relations and economic and investment affairs. — MNA/KTZH
