233 Myanmar nationals arrested for entering Thailand illegally

Thai authorities have arrested 233 Myanmar illegal immigrants in Prachuap Khiri Khan province and Kanchanaburi province, according to their yesterday’s announcement.
On 10 and 11 May, a total of 158 Myanmar nationals, including 89 men and 69 women, were arrested in three districts in Thailand.
A total of 75 Myanmar people including 39 male workers, 36 female workers and 10 guides were arrested in seven places in five other provinces.
The detainees were from Bago, Dawei, Mandalay, Yangon, Myeik, Magway and Mawlamyine Townships and had to pay between 20,000 and 25,000 baht to enter Thailand. No suspects were found to be infected with the COVID-19 virus.
On 6 May, Thai Police and Special Forces found a 35-year-old Myanmar man dead with gunshot wounds at the back and head on a Thai highway.
Two other Myanmar men and one woman were shot near the scene, and four Myanmar men and six women were found hiding nearby.
According to investigators, they entered Thailand illegally, fell into a car to cross a checkpoint and were shot while driving at high speed.
Thai authorities have arrested a 51-year-old gunman responsible for local administration, according to the announcement on 8 May. — TWA/GNLM
