As geotourism started to become active in Popa Geopark, a soft trekking package is under the arrangement to study local history and geological events, according to Ko Tin Ko Min from the Mahagiri group.
“Currently, we are starting Geotourism. We are selling soft trekking packages. Geosite No 7 is included. We included some places that are not included in the geosite in the soft trekking route. For those who don’t want to climb the mountain, there is a short trek on the overnight camping trip,” he said.
On the trip, travelling to Nhamataw Yayhtwet and Daw Myat Hla Spring is also included, and people can study the importance of the forest and trees, which collect rainwater from the plants in Mount Popa and provide essential support for other living creatures, and have a chance to pass through the guardian Min Mahagiri shrine of a traditional belief handed down from ancestors.
In addition, people can study the arrival of sandalwood in Geopark 7 of Mount Popa Park, its rarity and Myanmar’s golden deer and natural crystals of volcanic rocks. After that, people can continue to the Mahagiri hill through the road around Mt Popa, where a sunset view in the forest walking tour and a night star gazing programme are added.
He thought that there would be more tourists in the dry season as there are now visitors as well as some inquiries. The Mahagiri group currently provides mountain climbing services, cares for Popa langur conservation, and expands its services into geotourism. — MT/ZN/ED
