For the Asia Model Festival, which South Korea will host, the costume of a young prince of the Toungoo era is under creation, said costume designer Myat Thinkha Nge, founder of Myat Tawwin.
“International models have to submit short videos of their traditional wearing styles and natural sceneries representing their traditional culture to South Korea. These videos will be part of the event, and they can catch the public attention. Not many people know about the Toungoo era. I organized a photo shoot for a Myanmar model in a young prince costume of the Toungoo era at Bago’s Kanbawzathadi Palace. I made the costume to look exactly like one of the Toungoo era,” he said.
He made sure the photo shoot featured Myanmar traditions and customs. “Hlainggyi Taungshay is Myanmar’s traditional wear, and the international circle accepts it as Myanmar’s own heritage. I recreated the royal dagger and shoes with a real original look of the Toungoo era,” he said.
He also painted Myanmar tattoos in detail on the model’s body. — Thit Taw/ZS
