There are many people who buy consumers’ goods in the market to donate to the people affected by the flood and the sellers are selling at the lowest profit margin, according to some shopkeepers.
Currently, when making donations for flood victims, the amount of personal items donated by donors is also increasing.
“People come to buy to help those affected by the flood. At almost every store, people and organizations buy goods these days. They buy hundreds of them. We sell them at a small profit margin. We discount the price as much as we can since this is donation. They mainly buy pillows, blankets, mosquito nets, and towels. Some people go to the plaza and some buy them in the market, “said a person selling consumer goods at Pazundaung market.
There are a lot of purchases of items worth between a few thousands to tens of thousands, and the market is selling briskly.
“Now the well-wishers donate new ones. Charity associations and generous people donate a lot. When it comes to new things, they buy a lot of new clothes and new appliances,” said one of the relief activists in flood-hit Toungoo areas.
In the past, pillows, consumer goods such as mats, blankets, and mosquito nets were usually sold more in the cold season.
