The second coordination meeting for Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) prevention in Yangon Region took place yesterday morning at the regional government office.
Professor Dr Thida Hla from Yangon General Hospital began by explaining the measures being implemented for Mpox prevention and the protocols for treating any detected cases in the region.
Following this, Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs U Htay Aung, Minister for Natural Resources U Zaw Win, and Secretary of the Regional Government U Nyi Nyi Min discussed the regional government’s support for Mpox prevention initiatives.
On 21 August, Yangon Region Minister for Natural Resources U Zaw Win, Minister for Social Affairs U Htay Aung, Professor Dr Thida Hla, and officials from the Regional Public Health Department inspected health workers conducting surveillance at the Yangon International Airport.
Since 21 August, 9,450 travellers arriving from abroad have been monitored. No suspected cases have been identified so far. However, preparations are in place to transfer any suspected patients to Waibargi Hospital for further care if necessary. — San Kyaw Oo (IPRD)/TKO
