The Myanmar U-22 national football team is currently training in Binan, the Philippines, prior to a crucial group A match in the men’s football competition for the 30th South East Asian Games, which will be held on 2 December.
Headed by chief coach Velizar Popov, Myanmar U-22 footballers who participated in the match against Timor Leste on 29 November trained at their hotel, while the remaining players underwent special training at the Binan Stadium yesterday.
The team Myanmar match against Cambodia will be played at Binan Stadium in the Philippines at 6:30pm Myanmar Standard Time.
Currently, Myanmar has played three of four matches in Group A, and Team Myanmar has won two matches and had one draw.
Myanmar played to a 1-1 draw against Malaysia on 25 November, having already defeated the Philippines team 2-1, and also were victorious over Timor Leste 3-1.
Team Myanmar is now at the peak of the standing table with 7 points, followed by Cambodia and the Philippines, who have each garnered 4 points, Malaysia one point and Timor Leste with no points.
Myanmar is now the strongest team in Group A to advance to the semifinal of the SEA Games men’s football tourney, as even a draw in the upcoming match against Cambodia is enough for Team Myanmar to proceed to the semifinal, according to football experts.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
