Authorities have issued hotel licences to 59 hotels, motels and lodges and 45 of them are currently operating in the Sagaing region, said U Aung Thu Oo, the head of the Sagaing Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
“The Sagaing Region Tourism Committee has granted licences to 59 hotels, motels and lodges. Of which, 45 are currently running for the guests. The remaining 14 are temporarily closed at the wishes of the owners,” he added.
The Sagaing Region Tourism Committee was formed with 13 members, including the region chief minister as chairman, minister for economic affairs as a vice-chairman, the head for the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism as secretary, six region-level departmental staff, three private tourism representatives and one expert.
“The Sagaing Region Tourism Committee holds the monthly meeting regularly and granted new hotel licences, licence renewal, extending tour guide licences,” U Aung Thu Oo was quoted as saying.
Currently, about six hotels, motels and lodges are under the construction period and will be issued licences upon completion.
So far, some hotels and motels are completed about 90 per cent while some are done 50 and 80 per cent. — Lu Lay/GNLM
