Of 50,995 acres of monsoon maize planned to cultivate, 35,781 acres have been grown in the township.

According to the township agriculture department, farmers in Myawady Township, Kayin State, cultivate monsoon paddy only for consumption and commercially plant monsoon maize.
Of 50,995 acres of monsoon maize planned to cultivate, 35,781 acres have been grown in the township. It is learned that monsoon maize is grown for up to 120 days.
At the time of maize harvesting, farmers can sell a basket of maize at K9,000. It costs about K300,000 per acre for farmers to grow maize, and about K800,000 in return, resulting in approximately K500,000 per acre. Similarly, after 100 days of maize planting, green peas are planted with zero tillage (no-tillage system) between these maize plants, which is very beneficial for maize farmers.
It is reported that pre-field technical assistance is being provided to make sure that these farmers use pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides proportionally to cultivate in a systematic manner using scientific methods and prevent them from getting pests. — Htein Lin Aung/GNLM
