The 65th Myanmar Medical Conference began at the Myanmar Medical Association-MMA in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday with an opening address by Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe has called on the MMA for promoting its activities joining hands with releated associations.
In addition to increasing cooperation among members, groups and sub-groups, the association needs to increase connections and cooperation with related medical associations, such as the Myanmar Dental Association, Myanmar Nurse and Midwife Association, Myanmar Pharmacist Association, and Myanmar Medical Technologist Association, said the Union Minister.
MMA had been operating for seventy years, from its founding in 1949, and credited its fine work to the unity of its members. The association has 42 groups, which include general practitioners, as well as specialists, and has branches in states and regions.
He also pledged that the ministry will increase cooperation with the Myanmar Medical Association so that Myanmar physicians can conduct workshops, medical congresses and discussions with an aim of increasing the level of health care service capacities of the physicians.
He also stressed the need to use modern information and communication technologies for physicians in remote areas so that they can continue life-long learning and studying.
As the MMA is cooperating with the World Medical Association to ensure life-long continuous learning and studying, the ministry will work together with the MMA for physicians from the ministry to participate in this learning and studying.
Myanmar Medical Association (MMA) President Prof. Dr. Rai Mra explained about the construction of the MMA (Nay Pyi Taw) Building, preparation works for the conference, the status of cooperating with the ministry in providing health care services in Rakhine State based upon medical ethics, and future works. Afterwards Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe and MMA President Prof. Dr. Rai Mra formally opened the exhibits of the ministry, private pharmaceutical and medical equipment.
The 65th Myanmar Medical Conference will continue until 22 January in MMA (Nay Pyi Taw).—MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
