6th ASEAN+3 Committee on Women discusses promotion of opportunities for women

Union Minister Dr Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin addresses the 6th ASEAN+3 Committee on Women.

Myanmar hosted the 6th ASEAN +3 Committee on Women (6th ACW+3) on Friday in Yangon, aiming to discuss progress of women and gender equity actions, participation of women in decision making processes and further cooperation among ASEAN+3 countries.
The meeting focused on promoting women’s opportunities in the ASEAN region with the help of the ASEAN and its partner countries. The attendees discussed women’s participation in the country’s reforms and future plan to implement research program on women which plays a vital role in the development of women sector, amending the women-related laws and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women.
The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is now drafting a law on prevention of violence against women. It is expected to finish at the end of year.
The National Committee for Women’s Affairs in cooperation with the UN agencies and international organizations has been implemented its national strategic plan to develop women’s lives, source said.
Present at the meeting were Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin, Union Minister for Culture Daw Sanda Khin, the president of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, delegates from the ASEAN countries and the UN, and departmental officials.
