70 pig-raising farms set to emerge in Nay Pyi Taw with loan support

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is initiating a project to establish 70 pig farming units in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, each accommodating 100 pigs. Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi unveiled this effort during a meeting on livestock and fishery development on 4 August. The ministry plans to provide financial assistance to pig farmers through loans, along with technical assistance, support, quality piglet breeds, and disease prevention measures.
Key officials, including directors-general from the Livestock Breeding & Veterinary Department and Department of Fisheries, discussed their roles in the meeting, which highlighted ongoing projects, annual goals, and top priorities crucial for the growth of the livestock industry.
The deputy minister and officials demonstrated their commitment by visiting Dagon International’s organic farming and fish farm in Shwekheinn village, Dekkhinathiri Township. They also inspected pig farming process by farmer U Phone Myint Aung in Taungnyo village, Ottarathiri Township, offering encouragement and assistance to these farmers.
In further excursions, the deputy minister explored the Yezin fishery site in Kyitaungkan village, Zeyathiri Township, managed by the Department of Fisheries. He also assessed dairy cattle farming and Napier grass cultivation at the pedigree distribution farm near Office No 36. Discussions among officials emphasized enhancing collaboration between veterinarians and livestock enterprises, addressing technical challenges in livestock breeding.
The overarching goals of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation include ensuring food security, generating surplus production, and providing extensive support to the meat and fishery sectors, as well as promoting the growth of privately-owned livestock businesses. — MNA/TH
