An opening ceremony for the 71st Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Selection Examination was held yesterday morning in the Vizaya Mingala Dhamma Thabin Hall at the Kaba Aye Hill in Yangon.
The congregation was attended by State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaws, Ovadacariya Sayadaws of Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Selection Board, Examiner Sayadaws, candidates, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Deputy Minister U Kyi Min, Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs U Naing Ngan Lin, Director-General of the Department of the Religious Affairs U Myint Oo, departmental officials, and donors. First, Ovadacariya (patron) chairman of Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Selection Board, Hlinethaya Township Sasana Gonyi Monastery Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maharattha Guru Bhaddanta Pyinyatethara Bhivamsa gave the five precepts to the audience. The congregation listened to the sermons and recitation of parittas by the sayadaws and sanghas.
Next, State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chairman Mandalay Township, Bhamo Monastery Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maharattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Dr. Bhaddanta Kumara Bhivamsa delivered a message. Afterwards, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko made a supplication about religious matters.
Donors then presented donations amounting to K33.9 million that were accepted by Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko, Deputy Minister and officials who in return presented certificates of honour to the donors.
The congregation then listened to sermons delivered by Yangon Region, Thanlyin Minkyaung Pahtamapyan monastery Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sandima Bhivamsa and shared merits of their good deeds made. The 71st Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Selection Examination continued at the ordination hall of the Mahapasana Cave, where the Union Minister and officials donated cash to the Sayadaws. The 71st Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Selection Examination will be held from 28 December 2018 to 29 January 2019 for 33 days.
