73rd Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination held in Yangon

The opening ceremony for the 73rd Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination was held at Wizaya Mingala Dhamma Thabin Hall of the Kaba Aye Hill in Yangon yesterday morning.
The event was attended by State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaws led by Chairman Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhamo Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Kumara Bhivamsa, Sayadaws of Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Board, Members of the Sangha, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko, Chairman of Yangon Region Administration Council U Hla Soe, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tun Ohn, the permanent secretary of the ministry and other departmental officials.
First, the congregation led by Union Minister U Ko Ko received the Five Precepts from Chairman of Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Board Hlinethaya Township Sasana Gonyee Monastery Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Pannissara Bhivamsa, and listened to the Parittas recited by Members of the Sangha.
Afterwards, Chairman Sayadaw of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee delivered an Ovadakatha, followed by the Union Minister supplicating religious matters.
The Union Minister and officials donated cash and offertories to members of the Sangha and the congregation listened to the sermon delivered by Yangon Region Thanlyin Minkyaung Pahtamapyan monastery Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Candima Bhivamsa, and shared the merits they gained.
In the afternoon, the 73rd Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination was held at the ordination hall of the Maha Pasana Cave, where the Union Minister donated K300,000 as nine prerequisites each to ten Sayadaws.
The Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination has been annually held since 1310 Myanmar era. During the 72 exams, the number of Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida recipient Sayadaws was 15 in total and there were 7 members of the Sangha who fully passed the oral recitation of Tipitaka and its written test.
The 73rd Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination with the participation of a total of 171 monks will go on until 21st May. — MNA
