9th Political Consultations between Myanmar and Viet Nam held via videoconference

The 9th Political Consultations between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw, at 9:30 am on 28 December 2020 via videoconference.
U Hau Do Suan, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Mr Nguyen Quoc Dung, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam co-chaired the meeting. Present at the Consultations were U Kyaw Soe Win, Myanmar Ambassador to Viet Nam, Mr Ly Quoc Tuan, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam.
At the Consultations, both sides cordially discussed and exchanged view on the matters pertaining to the further consolidation of the existing friendly relations between the two countries, latest developments in Myanmar and Viet Nam, developments in Rakhine State, national reconciliation and peace processes of Myanmar, bilateral cooperation in various sectors including trade and investment, energy and mining, telecommunications, education, tourism, culture, agriculture, livestock, irrigation and forestry. Both sides also touched on a wide range of issues including the possibility of elevating the comprehensive partnership relationship to a strategic partnership level, exchange of high level visits in the coming year, to strengthen collaboration in regional arena such as ASEAN, CLMV, ACMECS and other Mekong sub-region initiatives and multilateral fora including the UN.—MNA
