About 276 fire outbreaks reported in Mandalay Region in 2019

About 276 fire outbreaks took place in Mandalay Region in 2019, with three persons dead and 26 injured, according to the report of Regional Fire Services Department.
A total of 89 cases were reported from Mandalay District, 35 cases from Pwin Oo Lwin District, 32 cases from Kyaukse district, 40 cases from Meiktila District, 33 cases from Myingyan District, 30 cases from NyaungU District, and 17 cases from Yamethin District.
The fire outbreaks destroyed 308 homes, two factories, and 11 warehouses, with total losses pegged at over K430 million, according to the Regional Fire Services Department.
The high number of fire outbreaks can be attributed to electric short-circuiting, negligence, improper usage of cooking stoves, forest fires, and arson, said officials.
There were more cases of fire in 2019 compared with the previous years.
In 2018, the fire department registered about 215 cases with damage to property estimated at over K430 million. Eight persons were killed and nine were injured in the fires.
In 2017, a total of 202 outbreaks of fire were reported in Mandalay region, with losses to property pegged at K300 million.—Aye Cho (Translated by Hay Mar)
