According to the Basic Education Department, there were 1,343,037 school enrolments nationwide on 23 May, which is the beginning of the school enrolment week for the 2023–2024 academic year.
In terms of school enrolment by region and state, Ayeyawady Region had the highest number with 297,174 students, followed by Yangon Region with 183,172 students, 171,018 in Mandalay Region, 154,122 in Bago Region, 128,415 in Magway Region, and 107,482 in Shan State.
In addition, a total of 78,494 students were enrolled in Nay Pyi Taw, 37,929 in Sagaing Region, 37,197 in Kachin State, 5,729 in Kayah State, 6,741 in Chin State, 63,165 in Mon State, and 35,725 in Rakhine State. According to the statistics of the Department of Basic Education, there are 1,069,847 primary school enrollees, 207,335 middle school enrollees, and 65,855 high school enrollees.
Enrolment is underway in basic education schools in various regions and states, and stationery and school uniforms for students are being provided. — TWA/CT
