ACC charges Sagaing mining officials with corruption

ACCThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) opened graft cases against five mining officials in Sagaing Region on 20 August.
Upon investigation, the ACC has discovered that Director-General of Department of Mines from Sagaing Region Branch Office U Aung Naing solicited K4 million from a company that applied for gold mining permits.
The commission also found that No.2 Mining Enterprise’s Deputy General Manager from Monywa U Lin Htin illegally accepted K20.3 million from a gold mining company, and Police Inspector from Mongkai Police Station Myo Min Nyunt (resigned) illegally received a total of K10 million — K5 million from three mining workers and another K5 million from the death case of a mining worker.
Upon the commission’s investigation, senior clerk of Homalin General Administration Department Daw Shu Shu Yin received the bribe of K350,000 for a gold mining permit from Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics (DALMS)’s Surveyor Grade IV U Soe Moe Aung.
The commission has charged U Aung Naing, U Lin Htin, and Inspector Myo Min Nyunt (resigned) with Section 56 of the Anti-Corruption Law, Daw Shu Shu Yin with Section 57 and U Soe Moe Aung with Section 57/63.
The ACC has filed corruption cases against them at Homalin and Mongkai police stations on 20 August and is continuing legal actions.—MNA  (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
