Advice from Sitagu Sayadaw on placement of world’s biggest drum

“Advice will be taken from Sitagu Sayadaw on the placement of the world’s biggest drum carved in Latpankone Village, Indaw Township, Katha District, Sagaing Region,” said Sagaing Region Chief Minister Dr. Myint Naing.
The subject world’s biggest drum was carved in “Saya Pwel” Myanmar Instrument Enterprise from Latpankone Village, Indaw Township and the completion of it was observed by the Sagaing Region Chief Minister Dr. Myint Naing and authorities on 25 December.
“We are discussing with Sitagu Sayadaw and taking his advice. The Enterprise has donated the drum to us and left it in our hand to place it where it is appropriate.
We are seeking the advice of Sitagu Sayadaw as the drum is related with the religion and we cannot take any risks,” explained the Sagaing Region Chief Minister.
According to Saya Pwel Myanmar Instrument Enterprise, the world’s biggest drum was carved with Kokko (Albizia lebbeck) tree wood. It has a length of 128 inches, 64 inches high and the face of the drum is about 54 inches in diameter. The drumhead or drum skin is made from two layers of buffalo hide while drum ropes are made from 18 sheets of cow hides.
Furthermore, Lord Buddha’s sermons and verses, Bamae Sayadaw’s chants and lucky charms were carved in the interior of the drum while images of angels paying homage to Buddha footprint are carved decoratively in the exterior of the drum it is learnt.—Ko Min (Indaw) (Translated by Hla Yamin Eain)
