In the opening Group H match of the AFC Cup, Shan United, which is representing Myanmar, conceded a 0-2 loss against Kaya Iloilo FC of the Philippines yesterday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.
Shan United used key players, including Thiha Si Thu, David Htan, Nanda Kyaw, Yan Naing Oo, and Maximum, and also used striker Zin Min Tun and Dwe Ko Ko Chit in the second half.
The winning goals for Kaya FC were scored by Jovan Bedic and Eric Giganto in the second half.
Though Shan United showed good form and dominated over their opponents, the team failed to convert goal chances and that helped the opposing team win.
The first half ended with a scoreless draw.
Shan United missed a great chance at 48 minutes as Abubakar’s strong kick hit the goal post, and the ball bounced back to be kicked again by NanadaKyaw, but fell wide off the mark.
Kaya FC got a penalty kick at 74 minutes and it was scored successfully by Jovan Bedic.
After their first goal, the Philippines club launched another attack, and at 85 minutes, taking advantage of a misunderstanding between Shan United defenders, Eric Giganto scored the second goal for Kaya FC, and the match ended with a two-goal win for the team.
Shan United will next play against Indonesian club PSM Makassar on 26 February, while Kaya FC will take on Tampines Rovers FC the same day. —Lynn Thit (Tgi)
