AFC U-23 Asian Cup to be launched in Uzbekistan

The AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2022 will be held in Uzbekistan from 6 to 25 September, following the AFC football authorities’ decision set up in the previous week.
“The tournament, which was won by South Korea when it was held in Thailand last year, will begin its Qualifiers later this year from 23 to 31 October 2021 in a centralized format with the venues to be decided and communicated in due course.
Taking into consideration the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and to safeguard the health and wellbeing of players, teams, officials and all stakeholders, the AFC Executive Committee also approved the cancellation of the AFC Futsal Club Championship UAE 2021”, AFC officials stated.
Authorities originally determined that China would have hosted the tournament as a preparatory competition ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, but it was announced on 15 October 2020 that they would withdraw from hosting the tournament due to scheduling conflicts, stadium completion timelines ahead of other international events and challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. —GNLM
