All stakeholders need to participate in the harmonization process for the national land law and the land management laws: Vice-Senior General

Various projects of land utilization for cultivable lands, groups of factories, industrial zones, satellite towns, new farmlands, and watershed areas for sufficiency of drinking water must be implemented on priority for the improvement of socio-economy of the people to efficiently utilize the natural resources of the nation, said Chairman of the National Land Utilization Council Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the second meeting of the national land utilization council at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General noted that Myanmar is facing many challenges in land utilization management with land disputes, needs for amending the existing laws and procedures, weakness and inharmonic processes of laws, a misunderstanding over the laws, need of accuracy for land sources and restricted procedures in coordination with relevant departments.
Hence, he added that all stakeholders need to participate in the harmonization process for the national land law and the land management laws.
Land management is related to the majority of 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations and No 15 goal is primarily concerned with the protection of global ecosystems and management for all living beings across the world.
In Myanmar’s sustainable development plan (2018-2030)’s five strategic goals and its paragraph 5, the plan has been adopted to implement the land management and improvement of sustainable management for the natural resources-based businesses for the people to enjoy the profits of natural resources.

The Vice-Senior General pointed out the most important role of the relevant work committees, technical advisory team, the land utilization committees of regions and states and Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory for implementation of the prioritized programmes such as drawing the national land law, harmonization of the land management laws, setting the national land utilization projects and land utilization zones and establishment of the land information management system based on the main guideline of the national land utilization policy.

Secretary of the National Land Utilization Council Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi reported on the progress of implementing the minutes of the previous meeting.
Officials clarified the progress of their respective sectors. Members of the national land utilization management council Union ministers, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council and region and state chief ministers discussed systematic drawing the Myanmar national mapping system, no use for cultivable lands in other ways, the emergence of the national land law, and utilization of land by relevant ministries.
After reviewing the discussions, the Vice-Senior General gave a concluding remark. — MNA
