Amyotha Hluttaw resumes with queries to ministries of commerce, education

The 17th regular session of Second Amyotha Hluttaw began yesterday, and new representatives of Tatmadaw swore and signed on oath in front of Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than.
MP U Tun Tun Oo from Mandalay Region constituency 2 raised a query on the relief plan for local sugar producers and cane sugar growers who have been hit by increasing import of this commodity.
Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo explained the ministry’s restriction on import permit of purified sugar for domestic businesses, free export permit for local sugar cane and its products, control over illegal sugar imports and adopting short and long-term plans for this business from cultivation to market for sugar canes.
MP U Lah Min Htan from Chin State constituency 10 asked for opening a border market in Sabaungtal Village of Matupi Township in Chin State.
Deputy Minister U Aung Htoo replied that the plan is being implemented in coordination with India. In the first stage, a border market will be opened at Pansaung Town of Sagaing Region and more border markets will be established after making agreements between the two countries. MP U San Myint from Ayeyawady Region constituency 3 asked about construction of a new school building to replace the old facility at the high school in Kwin Thone Sint village of Yekyi Township in his
constituency.
Deputy Minister for Education U Win Maw Tun replied that the ministry has set the budget for this plan in 2020-2021FY to construct a two-storey 100ftx30ft RCC building.
MP U Myint Naing from Rakhine State constituency 5 asked about construction of each school building in his constituency in 2020-2021FY.
Deputy Minister U Win Maw Tun answered that budgets will be allocated for construction of these school buildings.
MP U Naing Thiha from Mon State constituency 7 asked for construction of a new school building at the high school in Kawdwit Village of Ye Township in his constituency. The Deputy Minister replied that the plan is not included in the list of priority for this year, and budget will be allocated for the 2021-2022FY.
The Deputy Minister also answered to the question of MP U Kyaw Toke from Mandalay Region constituency 7 about application and scrutinizing method of education stipends in basic education, technical and vocational education and higher education sectors. The Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker then informed about acceptance of Health Assistant Council Bill with the recommendations of Pyithu Hluttaw and invited the list of MPs who want to the discuss the bill.
