Appeal will be made within the framework of law for Win Zaw Tun and Zaw Lin Effort will be exerted for relaxation of punishment in consideration of bilateral friendship


The following are the excerpts from interview with U Sein Oo, Director-General of consular affairs & legal affairs department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding handing down death sentence by a Thai Court to two Myanmar migrant workers for allegedly murdering two British tourists in Koh Tao Island:—

— officers from Myanmar embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, and the office of the military attaché and members of Myanmar Association in Thailand (MAT) visited on 5th October, 2014, the two Myanmar detainees and conducted a field trip to the scene of the incident to find out what was happening on ground;
— Myanmar chargé d’ affaires a.i on 10th October, 2014 met with Mr Paul Bute, the second in charge of British mission in Thailand discussed this matter in order that they both could ensure justice, transparency and winning of public trust,
— Members of MAT and of Foundation of Education Development (FED) had, in cooperation with two lawyers from Thai Barr Council, three witnesses freed before the trial on 14th October, 2014;
— Myanmar Ambassador to Thai on 29th October, 2014, met patron of Thai Barr Council and Thai National Human Rights Commission and discussed with them to ensure that the accused were not persecuted;
— The President and the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services have invariably requested the Thai Prime Minister and leaders to ensure that the trial was conducted legally; besides, they both sent messages to review this case to ensure that there exist sound evidences;
— Speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) had also requested during his visit to Thailand on 24th September, 2014, Thai authorities to handle this case in order that the verdict could be passed within the framework of law;
— Speakers of both houses had sent messages to their respective counterparts to administer justice in trial.—Myanmar News  Agency
