Those who want a passport urgently can apply through the green channel by submitting the required documents, according to the Myanmar Passport Office.
Applicants who are MoU workers, members of religious organizations, participants of cultural exchange delegations, people from the tourism industry, government staff going overseas on duty or during their leaves, as well as those who need to go to a foreign country for education or health urgently, are qualified to use the green channel. Applications must be submitted to the chairman of the Myanmar Passport Office at Office No 38, Nay Pyi Taw, attaching all required documents, and the detailed information is provided at www.passport.gov.mm.
The government staff who seek a passport through the green channel must submit a verification letter endorsed with a sign by a senior official with the rank of director-general and above.
The online appointment system to apply for passports is widely used by applicants and the tokens for 2023 are already given. Currently, the office started to issue them for next year and tokens until mid-January 2024 are already announced.
On social media, some brokers are persuading people to use their services for passport applications by charging exorbitant fees, often resulting in fraud. So, the potential applicants need to take cautious against scammers, according to the officials. — ASH/TH
