Literature enthusiasts and avid readers from far and wide in Myanmar are filling The Big Bad Wolf at Fortune Plaza Myanmar Expo Hall in Thakayta Township, Yangon, to the brim as the world’s biggest book sale opened for the 5th day yesterday.
People are offered a selection of reading materials from more than a million books on sale at low discount prices at the event from 10 to 20 January.
Event organizer U Myo Aung said the book sale has over ten thousand new varieties of books than last year and also has Myanmar literature on sale in addition to English books. He said they had introduced 13 major publishing companies this year and aim to increase that number in the year to come.
A collection of 1 million brand new English books are offered with amazing discounts of 50% – 90% off recommended retail price. The available genres range from bestseller titles, novels, science fiction, romance, literature, graphic novels, business books, self-help, architecture books, cookbooks and many more. Parents will also be able to find a wide offering of children’s books for all ages such as storybooks, activity books, board books, coloring books, picture books, and interactive books.
Daw Khin Thein of Thakayta Township said she missed the first The Big Bad Wolf and made an effort to attend it this year. She said while her eyes don’t allow her to read as much as she used to, she still admired the wide range of literature available at the event. She encouraged more youths to visit the event as it currently has the biggest selection of books anywhere.
Daw Lwin Lwin Hman from Kamayut Township said she came to purchase books for her grandchild and chose reading that would promote discipline and learning in children
The book sale was organized to support the Ministry of Information’s literature promotion plan and expand reading habits among all citizens.
The Big Bad Wolf book sale was first held at Myanmar Event Park, Yangon, in January 2019 and a second time in June of the same year at Myanmar Convention Center, Mandalay.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
