Army, navy, air force families honour retired military officers

Families of the Army, Navy and Air Force paid respects to retired senior military officers who attended the 73rd Anniversary of Armed Forces Day at a ceremony held in Zeyathiri Beikman, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Thirty-one retired senior military officers and 12 wives attended the ceremony where Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe Win and wife, Union Ministers Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe and wife, Lt-Gen Sein Win and wife, Lt-Gen Ye Aung and wife, high ranking Tatmadaw officers from the Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief’s office and their wives paid respects on behalf of the families of the Army, the Navy and Air force, according to Myanmar tradition.
On behalf of the retired senior military officers, Maj-Gen Thura Saw Phyu (retired), Maj-Gen Maung Maung (retired) and Lt-Gen Tun Kyi (retired) delivered speeches of guidance.
Afterwards, the Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief respectfully presented gifts of honour to retired senior military officers.
Later, the Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief, wife and party went to Bayintnaung guest house, where retired military officers who attended the 73rd anniversary Armed Forces Day were staying and personally paid respects to all the officers.
Afterwards, the Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief presented gifts to 20 Independence Mawgun Award winners who attended the Armed Forces Day military parade. Among the 20 was 97-year-old U Nyunt Tin (also known as “Crooked-arm Nyunt Tin”), who served in the Burma Independence Army (BIA), achieving the Independence Mawgun Award First Prize and continuing service in the traffic police assigned to Hledan junction and other places. He is beloved and respected by the public and is living in retirement in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon Region, it is learnt.
