Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win accompanied by officials met with the members of the Mandalay Region Government led by Chief Minister of Mandalay Region U Maung Ko on 23 April in Mandalay.
At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win said as the outbreak of COVID-19 is now well under control to some extent, it is necessary to step up regular health services. Despite the resumption of hospital operation at full speed, some specialized subjects are weak. He asked for the support of the regional government so that students can attend school safety, since the medical universities and its associated medical universities are reopened.
He said necessary arrangements for the arrival of international flights at the Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay International Airports will be submitted and implemented to the Central Committee for the Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19. He said it is necessary for the regional government to make necessary adjustments.
As the private health care plays an important role in the public health care sector, it is important to strictly abide by the laws and regulations, adding that Mandalay Region has good immunization coverage in the target groups. COVID-19 vaccines will be given to the people aged 15 and over to ensure full coverage of the vaccine in the target groups. The booster vaccine is being given to people aged 40 and over, he said.
He asked for the support when the school-based COVID-19 vaccination will be carried out when they are opened. In addition, routine immunization services for children under 5 years of age such as vaccinations against BCG, Polio, and measles are also being stepped up. He said public health preparations need to be made to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as dengue fever during the rainy season.
The Mandalay Region Chief Minister said his government is working to clean and beautify the hospitals, and that students who attend medical and related universities, including the University of Nursing, are warmly welcomed and provided with necessary assistance. He said that private hospitals and clinics will be monitored for compliance with the law.
Afterwards, the participants discussed ways to make health work more effective in Mandalay Region.
