ASEAN DGSOM-ATRC leaders’ retreat held online

The first ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting and ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council Leaders’ Retreat in progress online.

The first ADGSOM-ATRC Leaders’ Retreat (1st ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting and ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council Leaders’ Retreat) was hosted by Thailand via a virtual system yesterday.
Permanent Secretary for Transport and Communications U Soe Thein, Director-General of the Directorate of Communications U Myo Swe and representatives participated in the discussion. Malaysia chaired the meeting. Senior digital officials, heads of regulators from the ASEAN countries, director of the ASEAN Secretariat, and ASEAN ICT centre attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on ASEAN ICT funding and the preparation of the “Leaders’ Statement on Advancing the Digital Transformation of ASEAN” that need to be submitted to the ASEAN Digital Ministers for approval at the 38th ASEAN Summit in November 2021.
The meeting also discussed projects being implemented under the ASEAN ICT Work plan 2021, approval of the member countries’ proposed projects for the ASEAN ICT Work Plan 2022 depending on the priority needs and funding situation.
They also discussed projects to be implemented with outside organizations’ assistance and other issues related to the telecommunications and the ICT sector. — MNA
