Among the monasteries with ancient artefacts in Sagu, Minbu District, Magway Region, such as Hmankin Yotesone Monastery, Thonehtet Yotesone Monastery, and Kan Oo Monastery, Athinkayar brick temple (or) Pha-hta-ma-tite Oat Kyaung is a prominent monastery.
Athinkayar brick temple (or) Pha-hta-ma-tite Oat Kyaung is located in the compound of the Thonehtet Yotesone Monastery and is hundreds-year-old building. The monastery is also known as Pitaka Monastery because Pha-hta-ma-kyaw Sayadaw resided there with Pitaka manuscripts.
According to the inscriptions, it was built on 22 January 1393 AD by the Duke of Athinkayar, brother-in-law of King Swa Saw Kae. This 77-feet long and 55-feet wide monastery has a unique design and craftsmanship of ancient masonry and is now attracting tourists from all over the world. — Zeya Htet (Minbu)/GNLM
