Myanmar’s sports legend Aung La N Sang will defend his ONE Championship Middleweight World title against undefeated Netherland’s fighter Reinier De Ridder in the main event of the ONE named “Inside The Matrix” tonight in Singapore.
Being a king fighter of the Championship with two-division belts, the 33-year-old Aung La has said about his outstanding performances with full of confidence.
“I see this bout ending with a thrilling finish. Reinier is crafty on the ground. He wants to take you to the ground, and he wants to look for submissions,” Aung La N Sang said.
“This will be a clash of styles, but I won’t say it’s striker versus grappler because I can grapple as well. But he’s going to lean toward grappling, and I’m going to lean toward striking”, Aung La added.
The 30-year-old De Ridder, who owns black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo, is undefeated yet in ONE Championship history.
The 6 feet 1-inch-tall Aung La N Sang also reviewed the strength and weakness of his opponent De Ridder, who is 3 inches taller than Aung La.
“He’s going to look for the takedown. He’s going to look for the submission. He’s going to want to grapple, but I have that skill set, as well as the striking. I know for a fact that I’m superior in the striking department, so for this matchup, I’m going to be looking to finish him on the feet,” Aung La confirmed.
“He’s a high-level grappler, and he’s got some slick submissions, but I don’t think he’s a high-level wrestler. So, I think he’s going to have a hard time taking me down, and I don’t believe his ground game is much better than mine. If it does go to the ground, I’ll be fine.
“And, as an undefeated fighter, he has never been pushed to his limits. He’s never taken shots like the ones that I’m going to be throwing at him, so we’ll see how he fares with that,” Aung La added.
The ONE: “Inside the Matrix” main bouts will be broadcast live on free-to-air channels: MNTV and Channel ME at around 8:00 pm tonight and also streamed live free at the same time via ONE Championship mobile application and ONE Championship YouTube channel. — Lynn Thit (Tgi)
