A coordination meeting on organizing the Workshop on Managing Cultural Heritage in Lancang-Mekong Countries was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting, Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko explained that the meeting intends to share the knowledge, experiences and good practices of managing cultural heritage sites in Lancang-Mekong Countries.
It also aims to network with other cultural organizations, promote cooperation on cultural affairs between Mekong countries and China, promoting the skills and capabilities of all participants in the managing of cultural heritage sites, and to support the implementation of the World Heritage Convention. The Union Minister said managing cultural heritage sites is an important part of preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
He said this will strengthen the cultural identity of a nation and its people. He added that the workshop has invited representatives actively involved in managing the cultural heritage sites of Lancang-Mekong countries and China. Afterwards, the Director-General of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum and attendees discussed sending of invitations, welcoming reception, catering, decoration, security, health services, and punctual news releases concerning the upcoming workshop. The Union Minister gave suggestions and advice as necessary. Myanmar will be hosting the Workshop on Managing Cultural Heritage in Lancang-Mekong Countries in Bagan from 18 to 22 February.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
