Authorities to clamp down on noisy vehicles during Maha Thingyan festival

Police will target drivers of cars and motorcycles with noisy exhausts during the Maha Thingyan festival period in Mandalay, Police Major Thein Ko Ko of the No 11 traffic squad said.
“Action has been taken against motorcycles and vehicles without exhaust pipes each year,” he said. “We have warned that work licences will be revoked for the car workshops and garages that install inappropriate exhaust pipes.”
On 2 March, officials met owners of 762 motorcycle and car workshops in Mandalay District at the Mandalay City Hall and gave talks on the outbreak of common crimes in the festival.
“Authorities will impound unlawful vehicles during Maha Thingyan festival period,” the major said. “After the festival, action will be taken against owners and orders will be given to reinstall the original exhaust pipes.”
The local authorities took action against 53 unlawful motorcycles in 2013 and 35 in 2014 under the MCDC Law.–Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-printing House)
