Bago rice exports directly go to China via Muse

Rice from Bago region is being exported directly to China via Muse town without entering Yangon market, said U Than Oo, the secretary of Bayintnaung commodity depot.
The rice from Bago is being exported directly to China through Muse town because the rice prices in Yangon and other regions are almost the same. Also, the truck charges to transport rice are nearly the same.
“The rice traders from Muse thought the truck charges are almost the same to transport the rice from Yangon and other regions. So, the traders from Muse demand rice from other regions. There are also a few trucks heading to Muse from Yangon region. Now, the rice from Bago east and west is not entering Yangon region these days,” said U Than Oo, who also added that the trucks entering Yangon region are not easy to find the cargoes. So, they are only trading directly in the regions.
“The 12-wheel trucks entering the Yangon region could not find the cargoes easily on their way back to Muse and Mandalay. Most of the trucks went to the region to load the cargos and left the region directly,” he added.
Muse 105th Mile trade zone on Myanmar-China border area exports more than 30,000 rice bags to China daily, said U Min Thein, the vice-chairman of Muse Rice Commodity Depot.
About 50 trucks carrying 640 rice bags are also entering daily Muse 105th Mile trade zone, and the same volume of rice bags are sold back to China mainland, he added.
Although China needs about 80,000 rice bags daily to consume in their country, only over 30,000 rice bags are exported to Chain daily because of COVID-19 restrictions in China and transportation barriers, said U Min Thein.
The price of high quality 15-mark rice (Kayinma) is K 23,000 per bag containing 108 pounds while 25-mark rice is sold for K 20,500-K 21,000 per bag, according to Bayintnaung commodity depot. Although Muse merchants are trading directly in the region, around 100,000 rice bags are still entering Bayintnaung commodity depot daily, said U Than Oo. (Translated by Hay Mar)
