Bago’s dried snakehead fish distributed locally

Untitled

Dried snakehead fish from the Bago Region is distributed to Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and other areas, according to the Consumer Affairs Department.
Bago Region heavily relies on agriculture. With an abundance of fisheries resources in Bago’s rivers, ponds and lakes, fish paste, preserved fish and dried fish are produced in the region. The dried snakehead fish from Bago Region is not salty, so it is suitable for those with diabetes and hypertension. Some purchase the dried fish for their friends.
The snakehead fish is sourced from freshwater ponds and lakes of Bago, DaikU, Waw and Thanetpin townships. They are processed systematically, including washing and degutting. Salting for 100 visses of fish uses three visses of salt. One day after, they are washed in freshwater by changing water four times before sun drying. They can be dried within two days in summer. They are smoked in winter and monsoon seasons. A viss of snakehead fish can produce 25-30 ticals of dried fish (a viss equals 100 ticals). — NN/KK
