Bamboo shoot consumption has risen in monsoon season which is its harvest time.
Bamboo shoots which are harvested in monsoon taste sweet and beyond monsoon, only salted bamboo shoots are available. People prefer sweet bamboo shoot rather than salted.
“Bamboo shoot has high consumption. In monsoon, sweet bamboo shoots are available and people like it more. Bamboo shoots are preserved by salting to stock for the whole year. So many people buy it now. All are sold out shortly after they arrived,” said an official from Aye Say Ta Nar wholesale trading centre in Mandalay.
This is bamboo shoots harvest time in many areas and the trading is doing well.
“Monsoon is bamboo shoot harvest season in many areas. The trading is good in Mandalay. It is also harvesting in other towns. Consumers more enjoy sweet bamboo shoot. Other towns such as Chauk, Hopin and Mohnyin make orders when salted bamboo shoot is available,” he said.
