Black gram, pigeon pea prices dip; green gram prices stable

The prices of black grams and pigeon peas declined slightly on 10 January 2024, while the green gram price remained unchanged.
The prices stood at K3.061 million per tonne of black gram (Fair and Average Quality), K3.41 million per tonne of black gram (Special Quality), K3.505 million per tonne of pigeon pea, K3,830 per viss of green gram (Shwewah variety), K2,665-K3,000 per viss of green gram from Pakokku area and K6,250-K6,500 per viss of chickpea on 9 January 2024.
The prices decreased slightly to K3.05 million per tonne of black gram (FAQ), K3.395 million per tonne of black gram (SQ), and K3.495 million per tonne of pigeon pea on 10 January 2024. Meanwhile, the prices of green grams and chickpeas stayed strong.
The FOB prices were US$940-960 per tonne of black gram (FAQ), $1,040-1,060 for black gram (SQ), $710-740 for green gram from central Myanmar regions and $840-870 for green gram (Shwewah).
Myanmar annually exports 1.5 to two million tonnes of varieties of pulses to India. India is the primary market for Myanmar’s pulses. Myanmar’s black gram and pigeon pea prices are closely tied to India’s demand. — TWA/KK
