Sales of betel nuts in slices and halves are good in the Magway retail market of the Magway Region, according to market sources.
Most betel shops in Magway are buying more corn-kernel-shaped betel slices and halves.
“In our retail market, we sell more sliced and round betel halves. Split betel nuts are not much used here, and the betel nuts are shaped like corn kernels. They use small ones like that. In retail, they use those types, so sales are good,” said a shop owner of a betel nut wholesale shop in Magway township.
During the last July, sales in the retail market of betel nuts in Magway Township were good, and in August, the prices of betel nuts were better than the previous month.
“Last month, sales were good at the Magway retail market. This month, the prices are better these days. Because the prices are good, many betel shops are doing well. We are buying from Ye, Myeik and Dawei. We haven’t ordered the nuts from the Ayeyawady yet,” he said.
Betel nuts produced in Taninthayi were reportedly exported to Thailand in June.
