A 12-foot-high bronze bell was placed in the grounds of the Shwetaungsar Pagoda in Dawei, Taninthayi Region, after being transported from a foundry in Mandalay.
A heavy machinery team from Thailand fixed the bell, named Maha Wizaya Khemathitala Neikbutagawtha, in position a day after it was paraded around villages and wards in Dawei Township.
The bell, decorated with a Lawkanat statue and traditional Myanmar handicrafts, resembles the bell of King Thayawady from the platform of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon.–Po Shwe Thun (Dawei)
