According to U Maung Maung Lay, chairman of the Irrawaddy Dolphin protection team of the Mandalay Region Department of Fisheries, approximately 300 domestic tourists visit Sinkyun village, which is implementing community-based tourism in Madaya Township, Mandalay Region.
Starting from the first week of March, around 300 domestic travellers on a daily basis have been visiting Ayekyun Village, which is developing community-based tourism. In February, about 200 domestic tourists visited the village daily.
“Sinkyun, Ayekyun, Myaysun and Seinpankon villages in Madaya Township and Myitkangyi and Sithel villages inSingu Township are the existing community-based tourism destinations in Mandalay Region. Most tourists come to Sinkyun village to view Irrawaddy dolphins grazing in the Ayeyawady,” U Maung Maung Lay said.
In Ayekyun Village in Madaya Township, which is currently attracting domestic tourists, the number of visitors is increasing as tourists are interested in traditional weaving, pottery, bamboo hat, cheroot, sandal and Myanmar handicrafts industries.— ASH/TKO
