The central committee meeting for correctness and quality of statistical information 1/2023 was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, Office No 32 in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, in the capacity of the Chairman of the Central Committee for Correctness and Quality of Statistical Information, attended and gave a speech.
Union ministers who are members of the Central Committee, the Union auditor-general, the Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, the deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council member, the directors-general, sectoral task force chairpersons and officials attended the meeting in person while regional and state economic ministers, professors from the Department of Statistics, Yangon University of Economics, and the Myanmar Statistics Association vice-president via the videoconference system.
In the meeting, Chairman of the Central Committee Deputy Prime Minister U Win Shein said that the correctness of statistical information is very important for every country, and it is especially necessary for the comprehensive development of a country and the strengthening of the national statistical system.
By having quality statistical information, policymakers, planners, private entrepreneurs, and socio-economic research practitioners will be able to establish development policies and projects and create a good business environment, and limited resources will be used efficiently and effectively, he said.
The statistics sector is essential at every stage of the country’s development, so it is necessary to be able to work with evolving technologies and methods.
As the statistical system practised in our country is a statistical system that reduces central control, it is especially necessary to have coordination and cooperation between the departments and organizations related to statistics, not only the Central Statistical Organization but also those involved in the national statistical system to compile and publish statistical information.
To adapt the consumer price of goods and services to the modern system, the base year is changed from 2012 to 2017, so it is necessary to cooperate for the completion according to the timeline, he added.
Secretary of the Central Committee and Director General of the Central Statistics Organization U Tun Zaw clarified the reorganization of the Central Committee for Correctness and Quality of Statistical Information, completion of Central Committee Meeting 1/2021 resolutions, actions of working groups according to statistics sector, calculation of consumer price index and inflation rate from the base year 2012 to 2017, promotion of statistical knowledge, conducting meetings, business performance training and surveys and publishing Survey Calendar and statistical bulletins.
Then, the Union ministers who are members of the central committee, Nay Pyi Taw Council member, regional and state economic affairs ministers and officials discussed the correctness and quality of statistical information according to relevant sectors.
