Ceremony to set the ashes of late Presiding Nayaka of Maha Withutarama Zaygon Pariyatti Buddhist Learning Centre of Pyinmana in Nay Pyi Taw State Ovadacariya Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Dr Bhaddanta Kavisara (Sasanadhaja Siripavara Dhammacariya) adrift into the water took place at Paunglaung River near Kyitaung Village of Zeyathiri Township.
Sayadaws, monks, Deputy Ministers U Aye Tun and U Tun Ohn for Religious Affairs and Culture, Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Myint Soe and devotees recited the sermons in order to open the ceremony in the ground of the Uppatasanti Pagoda, where the crematorium was built.
Then, the golden and silver urns of Sayadaw were conveyed onto the Karaweik decorated float and to the Paunglaung river bank.
Sayadaws, monks, relatives and devotees carried the urns onto the vessel docked at Paunglaung river bank.
They recited the sermons at the designated place of the river to adrift the ashes of Sayadaw into the water and shared merit. They paid respects to Sayadaw, apologizing for any sins on their part, and concluded the ceremony.
The late Sayadaw served the duty of State Ovadacariya. He established Maha Withutarama Zaygon Monastery in Pyinmana as a Pariyatti Buddhist Learning Centre for giving lectures on Pariyatti literature to some 300 student monks up to his final days. The Sayadaw established Ubuddho Tawya Yeiktha, where he himself took meditation as well as gave ways of meditations to his disciples.
The Sayadaw opened many branches of the monastery. The Sayadaw passed away at the age of 95 with 75 vasa. — MNA
