Rather than imported pear, the trading of local pear which is cheaper is doing well.
Thailand pear and Chinese pear are also available in the market though, locally-produced Aaungban pear has been in high demand. “Both Thai pear and Chinese pear are imported. Among them, Myanmar pear produced from Aungban has high consumption. All kinds of Mtanmar fruits are cheap and the trading is better too. Myanmar pear is harvested only this month and no longer available in next months,” said owner of Pyaesone Aung fruit trading from Aungban.
In July, pears produced from Naungtayar are transported to Aungban wholesale trading centre and Yangon’s Thirimingalar Market. Pears are categorized depending on fruit’s size and price in consumer’s favour.
The yield of pear produced from Naungtayar has decreased this year due to weather change compared to 2023 and pear, avocado, orange and Sunkist are commercially grown at orchards in Naungtayar.
