Yangon City Development Committee has planned to open chicken shops which will sell for Ks 4,000 per viss in five ward markets in Yangon in February, in partnership with the Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary Department and the Boiler Chicken Breeding and Production Association, according to the breeder’s association.
The chicken shops are being planned to open in Zamyinzwe and ward-2 markets in North Okkalapa township, the Aung San Market in Insein township, the Nagarmouk Market in Shwe Pyi Thar Towship and the Yadana market in Htaukkyant township. The Yangon region government is planning to open other similar chicken shops in 15 additional markets.
Currently, the price of chicken in the market is Ks6,000 per viss. The chicken shops will open with the aim of reducing the price of chickens in the markets and making the price fair for the consumers. The chicken will be sent to the markets using cold storage vehicles. Measures are being taken not to affect the retailers.
“The price of chicken in the breeding farm is Ks2,500 per viss. And the price of the chicken is Ks3,700 per viss for individual consumers and Ks 3,100 per viss for the retailers,” said an official from Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
